Life just isn’t complete without some animal company. I have always gravitated towards other creatures, and have always found interaction with them deeply fulfilling. I believe all of our lives become better when we make space for animals, whether that means living with companions (like my two mostly-good dogs) or cohabiting natural space with the wild critters.

Although I did not start out wanting to be a veterinarian, it was inevitable that my career would orbit in some way around the animal kingdom. After some time spent in a variety of animal-related professions, I earned my Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Colorado State University. A unique privilege of being a veterinarian is that I get to witness and support the incredible bonds that people have with their animals. All are unique, and all are extraordinary. 

I will happily talk all day about how special I think animals are. To truly see another creature is to expand your own consciousness into new dimensions. I hope that with Kindred Species we can, in Wendell Berry’s words, bring you
